ABSTRACT

In addition, we are reducing their anxiety about falling short or failing when we communicate that there is “no wrong place” to intervene. We should normalize the fact that the work is not linear, and they can build on their successes wherever they achieve them. Starting wherever they feel most comfortable allows them to pace the work properly and increases the likelihood of cooperation and progress. All that is required is a mind-set that Schwartz (1997) helps clients find in their work: a sense of compassionate, nonjudgmental curiosity about the issue.
