ABSTRACT

It is imperative that we understand what triggers us when we work with this population. We can be triggered when clients express emotions such as rage, sadness, guilt, shame, depression, or despair. e triggering might be attributed to our own discomfort about the open expression of these emotions. If we’ve grown up in families that didn’t model or allow for the healthy expression and reconciliation of these feelings, we may be anxious about not knowing how to help our clients manage them.
