ABSTRACT

Design as a process has a language-a language of exploration and discovery, not simply of representation. This language communicates spatial relationships and consequently consists of symbols and shapes representing form rather than letters, and words that represent sounds. The methods include drawing and model making. Most importantly, the language of design has two major tasks: internally, communicate emerging form explorations and discoveries to the designer during the process, and, externally, communicate emerging design patterns to others (clients, community, team members, etc.).
