ABSTRACT
A specter has been wandering in the social sciences since the very beginning of human inquiries into human society. This specter has been variously called the institution, or simply rules and norms, and the specter’s larger embodiment order and structure. 1 The more recent rise of (new) institutionalism or institutional analysis in economics, history, political science, and sociology merely confirms that the specter will never go away.
