ABSTRACT

If institutions are the foundation of social life and institutional change is a fundamental force of social change, then the general theory of institutional change previously outlined must have profound implications for our understanding of human society in general. In this chapter, 1 I shall highlight some of the potential implications of the theory on some of the most fundamental issues in social theories. Although I do make some definitive statements on some issues, the main purpose of this chapter is to outline some directions for future research.
