ABSTRACT

In the three years post-FOCAC III, concrete follow-up mechanisms yielded some substantial results for Sino-African co-operation. Following the Beijing Summit, President Hu Jintao and other senior Chinese leaders conducted visits to 30 African countries, while heads of state, prime ministers and parliament speakers from 40 African countries visited China. As has been pointed out earlier, high-level exchanges between China and Africa are a characteristic of Chinese diplomacy with regard to Africa and the continu ation and intensity of such trips signified a serious attempt to deepen relations. Emblematically, between 2006 and 2009, the Chinese foreign minister visited 16 African countries, while around 20 African foreign ministers paid visits to China.
