This is a thesis in the personal identity debate that aims to solve the problem of ‘fission’: one person ‘becoming’ two people, for example, by having their brain hemispheres separated and rehoused in two separate bodies that have previously had their brains removed. According to the Multiple Occupancy Thesis, there were two people housed in the original body all along (see fission).
