ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Leadership is among the oldest and most complex set of social science theories. Scholars and laypersons alike have commented on and written about leadership for centuries. In this case chapter, the theories of collaborative leadership (Chrislip & Larson, 1994; Kezar, Carducci, & Contreras-McGavin, 2006; Komives, Lucas, & McMahon, 2007), connective leadership (Lipman-Blumen, 1992, 1998, 2002; Robinson & Lipman-Blumen 2003), and collaborative teamwork (Rawlings, 2000) will be discussed in the context of confl icting leadership styles within a large research institution.
