ABSTRACT

Since 1960, the education sector in Nigeria has undergone changes and it is still changing according to new demands and the aspirations of society. Throughout the 1970s Nigerian society, making its views known through the media and conferences, also continued to exert its influence in the determination of her educational policies and programmes. The Ashby report (1960) became the basis of educational development for manpower in the 1960s and its effect can be seen in the rapid expansion in primary education, diversified secondary school curricula, new efforts in improving technical and agricultural education, and widespread expansion in university education.
