ABSTRACT

Uganda, a country about the size of Britain, lies entirely inland, with its capital, Kampala, approximately 1440 km (900 miles) from the East African coast. It is connected by road and rail to the coast and is also linked by direct international air routes to other countries. Uganda’s neighbours, now all independent countries, are Sudan in the North, Zaire Republic in the West, Rwanda and Tanzania in the South and Kenya in the East (Barclays Bank DCO 1964) The greater part of the country has an altitude of between 1050 and 1350 km (3500 and 4500 ft.)
