ABSTRACT
Although I feel highly honored to have been invited to participate in this conference EN1 titled “The Psychic Life of the Infant: Origins of Human Identity”, Ed Corrigan can tell you I was very reluctant to accept the invitation. My reluctance began with the words to the title. I had to ask myself, just what is the “psychic life” of the infant? And, really, just what is “human identity”? I found I just didn’t know exactly what either of those two terms really meant.
