ABSTRACT

M y rst meeting with Dan was in the spring of 1988, when I was busy visiting graduate programs in psychology. Over the past two decades, he has been an invaluable mentor and I have been constantly amazed by his strong dedication to his teaching and research. In particular, Dan’s rm commitment to the crosslinguistic approach and his introduction of the Frog Story to the eld as a methodological tool have inuenced my own research on Japanese language development, especially my work on narratives. The study presented here is an extension of a paper on evaluative language use in Japanese and Turkish narratives (Küntay & Nakamura, 2004) and it focuses specically on Japanese data.
