ABSTRACT

tanganyika has many similarities to Uganda: a tiny manufacturing industry, low per-capita income, and export orientation. 1 In the 1950s and 1960s exports have averaged about 30 per cent of gdp, and over 45 per cent of the gdp of the money economy of Tanganyika. Foreign trade (exports plus imports) makes up about 50 per cent of gdp and 80 per cent of the gdp of the money economy.
