ABSTRACT
This section provides a general introduction to the African landscape, emphasizing those aspects which relate most directly to the origin and dynamics of the present environment. With this emphasis, more attention is paid to the more recent geologic, geomorphologic, and climatic history than to older, less directly influential events.
