ABSTRACT

Africa and South America are generally perceived as the most tropical of continents. In general this perception approximates reality. However, both in Africa and South America important parts of the continent lie beyond the tropics and/or are essentially extratropical in the characteristics of their physical environment. In this chapter we examine the environmental issues of these zones, in both northern and southern Africa.
