Rural ecodevelopment policy in China and the origins of economic adjustment

In 1980, the standing commission of the National People's Congress issued an important document on forestry which gives high priority to "eco-economic policy," i.e. a policy which seeks to relate economic development to the environment. This term was used by Jingji Yanjiu to translate "jingji shengtai." The priority of ecology in development was further emphasized in the national ecology campaign which lasted from mid-March to the end of April 1981. 1 For reasons of clear communication, we prefer the term "ecodevelopment" which is used more widely.
