ABSTRACT

The supply and utilization of energy usually has an impact on the quality of the environment. This applies not only to industrialized nations, but also to developing countries such as the People's Republic of China. Two of China's most prominent environmental problems, air pollution and deforestation, are energy-related. The air pollution of the cities is caused by the combustion of coal. The deforestation is due, to a certain extent, to the energy demand in the countryside. Besides these, there are a number of more locally confined problems that are also caused by energy demands.
