ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, I argued that holding ¯exible beliefs about life's adversities is the foundation of psychological health and that three other rational beliefs are derived from these ¯exible beliefs. When we hold such beliefs, we:

· hold non-extreme non-awfulising (as opposed to extreme awfulising) beliefs about life's adversities

· believe that we are able to tolerate (as opposed to not tolerate) the discomfort of facing these adversities

· adopt an accepting (as opposed to a depreciating) attitude towards ourselves, other people and life conditions as these relate to the adversities.
