ABSTRACT

International organizations (IOs) are important components of the political, economic and social environment of space activities and space policy. This chapter explores the extent and type of IOs with a significant impact on civil space affairs.1 IOs reviewed here include the United Nations (UN), European Space Agency (ESA), European Union (EU), Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), UN Specialized Agencies dealing with space, and other non-UN international space organizations that focus on space. For each organization covered, the discussion reviews mission, membership, general programme of activities and accomplishments in space policy and law.
