ABSTRACT
Inherited traits and illnesses affect us at several levels. A molecular glitch disrupts how a certain type of cell functions, causing the tissue and organs of which those cells are a part to also malfunction. Symptoms result. How genes are distributed as sperm and egg form and then come together at fertilization explains familial patterns of trait transmission. How we choose our partners explains much of our evolution.
