ABSTRACT

This chapter considers those areas of the early years setting where children can make creations, usually of their own design. There is no suggestion that these are the only places in the setting where children or adults are creative because the attitudes of creativity are to be seen in every corner! Because in this book, we are thinking specifically about areas of provision, rather than aspects of the curriculum, the decision was taken to include activities such as painting, picture-making and modelling in this chapter while considering other creative activities such as drawing and constructing in other chapters. Chapter 9 looks at creativity in the graphics area and Chapter 10 looks at creativity in the block area.
