ABSTRACT

Having examined whether personhood begins after birth, and whether it begins at birth itself, the next possibility would be that the personhood of the human fetus begins sometime between conception and birth. Between conception and birth, in terms of time and development, there are an infi nite number of possible points. As Zeno pointed out, a line between two points can always be divided ad infi nitum. So let us refl ect only on some of the points along the continuum of growth that might be considered as especially noteworthy in the development of the human being in utero. Of course, there are many signifi cant moments during gestation, so the question may arise at what point precisely does personhood begin?
