ABSTRACT

This book has tried to set out a few puzzles that surround the world of computers and space/form. It attempts to give a flavour of the discussions and methodologies that have been around for many years. We start from the latest approaches to the subject in Chapter 1, where we look at the structure and methods of distributed representation, the idea of the emergent consensus. This covers the whole idea of self-organization, a mostly post-modern take on morphology which tries to avoid making simplistic assumptions about meaning, information and geometry. Following on from this, the book works its way back to classical approaches to form generation using production systems and evolutionary grammars of form.
