ABSTRACT

This chapter uses complex adaptive system (CAS) analysis to assess how stakeholder involvement processes operated within the 12 case studies covering the urban regeneration (UR) and healthcare information systems (HCIS) policy domains. The cases studied in each of the two domains represented involvement processes between two different sets of agents, which nevertheless exhibited similar dynamics and could be profi tably analyzed using the CAS framework proposed. The UR cases illustrate interaction between the public and state agencies, as part of the delivery of front line services, while the HCIS cases illustrate the interaction between functional groups within an organization, as part of the development of support services facilitated by information and communication technology.
