ABSTRACT

As we move through this period of a return to a focus on the pragmatic design concerns associated with sustainability and performance, architectural expert systems will increasingly come into their own. Building information models (BIMs) already incorporate expert systems designed to perform routine problem-solving duties. They draw upon an acquired knowledge base, and “knowledge engineering” routines that have been proven in real world head to machine situations. More advanced expert systems will incorporate learning systems that will cause the system to evolve as it is used. These more advanced expert systems will quickly leave their human teammates behind in acquired knowledge and the wisdom of what to do with it.
