ABSTRACT

Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life. — John A. Piece

An ideogram, or ideograph, is a graphic symbol that diagrams an idea or concept. However, some ideograms are comprehensible only by prior knowledge of their convention; others convey their meaning through pictorial resemblance to a physical object, and therefore may also be described as pictograms, or pictographs. While pictograms are pictures that represent the phonetics of a word or phrase – pictography being the oldest form of writing, which dates from before 3000 bc – ideograms are characters or symbols that represent an idea or a thing without expressing the speech sound of the meaning of a particular word or word sequence.
