ABSTRACT

While many of the projects discussed previously provide spaces for people to come together for shared activity and support, the projects in this chapter differ in that the safe environments and structure they provide enables people to reflect on their experiences and connect them with the larger context of community life and history as well as universal themes of suffering and transformation. After a disaster, people often wish to speak about their experiences, to tell their stories—and most prefer to do this outside a therapeutic or clinical context. Moreover, they often desire the opportunity to make their personal story public.
