ABSTRACT

In 1995, Dr. Allen Keller and I established a clinic at Bellevue Hospital for torture survivors, aided by my colleagues at the Oslo Center for Refugees where I had recently given a presentation. We were also given support and guidance by other centers including the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) in Copenhagen, where the movement to treat survivors of torture had originated, the Center for Victims of Torture 31in Minneapolis St. Paul, and the STARRTS Program in Sydney. Through contact with these centers, we created a framework for providing clinical services for survivors in New York.
