ABSTRACT
In Part I of this book, we saw that universities have had and continue to have different forms of being. Many of these forms will be found in a single university at the same time. Still, over time, alternative dominant forms of the university can be discerned. What it is to be a university in the twenty-first century is not what it was in the nineteenth century, and still less what it was, say, in medieval times.
