ABSTRACT

Communicating with individuals one at a time is likely to be an expensive medium, so making the most of it certainly makes sense. We use it (appropriately) when sharing complex messages, dealing with potentially emotional content, and when simply building relationships. Despite its relative informality, application of the Straight Talk Model still applies nicely. This chapter focuses on sending and receiving messages in conversation and its more structured cousin, the interview. Since listening plays an especially important role, we will elaborate on some key listening principles as well.
