ABSTRACT

Over the past five years or so lesbian and gay male activists have made a considerable impact upon the policies and programmes of the Labour Party and trade union movement. The Labour GLC produced the Lesbian and Gay Rights Charter and funded the London Lesbian and Gay Centre. Labour administrations in local authorities throughout the country have taken up the issue of lesbian rights at a number of levels. The Labour Party itself, following years of work by lesbian and gay members, passed a major resolution on gay rights at its 1985 Annual Conference.
