ABSTRACT
Many questions in life can be avoided for a time, but the one question that cannot go unanswered is, “Who am I?” As people consider what makes the intellectual, emotional, physical, sexual, sensual, and spiritual areas of their lives come alive, certain identities seem more congruent than others. What systems theory terms self-differentiation (i.e., https://www.thebowencenter.org/theory.html), queer people identify as the process we have come to know as coming out. To differentiate, to be authentic, to grow into your own—these are the questions that everyone must answer at some point in his or her identity development.
