ABSTRACT
The Criminal Justice Act 2003 amends the Bail Act 1976 in order to ensure that the law is compliant with Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Article 5(3) specifically provides for entitlement to trial within a reasonable time or to release pending trial.
