ABSTRACT

The Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) co-ordinates the work of MI6 and GCHQ, and agrees intelligence requirements. The head of the JIC reports to the Cabinet Secretary and, through him, to the Prime Minister. The JIC has around 30 members, drawn on secondment from the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence. Membership of the JIC includes the Director of GCHQ, the Chief of MI6, Chief of Defence Intelligence Staff and the Director General of MI5. Divided into geographic areas and by functions, the JIC meets weekly to review assessments.
