ABSTRACT

The increasing use of word processors, personal computers, workstations, and image files is making office automation grow and diverge. More and more factories are introducing computers to automate their design procedures and to improve productivity of the various sectors of their overall operations. It has become necessary to connect computers installed at different locations to enable information exchange between different sections. This requires building an intracompany network with large memory capacity and highspeed communication capability to process documents, drawings, and image data as well as conventional code data. This type of network is called a local area network (LAN).
