ABSTRACT
Unlike mechanized sectors of the agriculture, manual work at animal wards had always been considered a woman’s task. Even before the coming of the Soviet power, women had been charged with and solely responsible for taking care of any domestic animals that the family owned. All jobs in the collective farm system that involved livestock remained exclusively feminized and were typically low-paid.
