While recovery from a mood disorder may be ‘like a cha-cha-one step forward, two steps back’,1 early intervention
brings rewards. Teenagers have resilience and fl exibility and generally more fl uid options open to them than those who are older. Many teenagers emerge from the throes of a mood disorder wiser than their age and with a maturity and a level of compassion and empathy that is not always the hallmark of adolescence. This grace is also refl ected in their willingness to accept support from others, as seen in the story below.
