ABSTRACT
All plants and animals share the same basic building blocks of eukaryotic cells. This shared characteristic is homologous, meaning that all of these multicellular organisms derived this structure from a common ancestor as life forms began to evolve and speciate over the past 4000 million years. This tree of life is depicted in Figure 3.1.
