ABSTRACT
Even more than with plot, no doubt, I shall be concerned with plotting: with the activity of shaping, with the dynamic aspect of narrative—that which makes a plot “move forward,” makes us read forward, seeking in the unfolding of the narrative a line of intention and a portend of design that hold the promise of progress toward meaning.
