ABSTRACT
The aim should be to find a new economic use that is viable over the long
term with minimum impact on the special architectural and historic interest
of the building or area.
Of much greater significance, it must be noted that the relevant guidance
goes beyond this. As indicated in the section above relating to Listed Building issues,
under both PPS 5 and SHEP, the demolition of a Listed Building can now, in principle,
be justified solely on the basis that its loss is essential to delivering substantial public
benefits.
