ABSTRACT

In general, any contact with English Heritage or Historic Scotland will be initiated through initial discussions with the relevant local authority.

It should be considered that, although English Heritage and Historic Scotland are responsible for designating Listed Buildings, independent specialist assessment based upon the above criteria can yield a more detailed and up-to-date understanding of the architectural or historic significance of a specific building or group of buildings. Although consultation during the assessment process is essential to establishing the specific views held by these statutory bodies, the results should be considered in terms of the wider development parameters and concluded upon accordingly.
