ABSTRACT

Samuel Adams apparently once again took up his pen and put on the guise of “Vindex” in the aftermath of the massacre. As in 1768 he turned to Edes and Gill’s Boston Gazette for his public outlet. The first essay in this new series appeared on December 10, 1770, before Manwaring and the other civilians were tried and before Kilroy and Montgomery were branded, then released. The last installment was printed six weeks later, on January 28, 1771.
