ABSTRACT
I. Introduction: Many Disciplines, One Profession I have long held that educational study does not comprise a single discipline but incorporates several disciplines. In The Language of Education (1960) I wrote: “Educational research must not be conceived as a single science, but rather as the common focus of many sciences with bearings on educational practice. These sciences include not only psychology but also, for example, sociology, anthropology, biology, and economics.”1
