ABSTRACT
Before he was the seventh President of the U.S., Andrew Jackson married a woman named Rachel who was not divorced from a previous husband. Though he was unaware of her marital status, this was scandalous and was a challenge he had to battle in his presidential campaign in the election of 1818. He still emerged victorious.
