ABSTRACT
To the reader who has followed this long discourse, I owe a final evaluation, and I owe her brevity as well. What in summary is Reid’s contribution to philosophy? One contribution is his method. We observe the mental world within and the material world without. There is a symmetry between our knowledge of the mental and the physical. The symmetrical method Reid advocated gives equal credence to both kinds of knowledge rather than giving one methodological priority over the other. His method is important because where you begin influences your ultimate destination.
