ABSTRACT
Reid thought that his major contribution to philosophy was his refutation of what he called the Ideal System of Descartes, Locke, Berkeley, and Hume. There is no better way of introducing the reader to the philosophy of Reid than to begin with this refutation and to follow it with a summary of his positive theory of the human mind. Let us turn to the refutation of the Ideal System.
