ABSTRACT
The term “conservative” is used because there is no other convenient word; but at the moment of writing there is no such thing as a “Conservative Party” in Germany, either “underground” or otherwise. In fact, there has been none since November 1918; for in the Weimar Republic the DeutschNationale Partei and a few others absorbed the conservative element of Germany which, even when represented in the Cabinet, did not wish to “conserve” the existent state of things but mainly to re-establish some form of Monarchy, preferably Hohenzollern.
