The question is whether this critical distinction can be made clear, whether we can distinguish an indecision attributable to ignorance of fact from one attributable to indeterminacy of habit. Habits, after all, are not formed in a vacuum; they are themselves intimately connected with states of belief, knowledge and ignorance. And general doubts concerning the analyticsynthetic distinction are inevitably aroused by what looks suspiciously like an effort to separate 'synthetic' from 'analytic' uncertainties.
