ABSTRACT
As has been mentioned earlier, the Holt mathematics teachers have a reputation within the school; they are known for talking about mathematics and being excited about doing so (sometimes to the consternation of others!). These conversations often originate from a comment a student made in class or in an issue a teacher feels as they prepare to teach a topic or share materials that they have developed. These conversations regularly take place during lunch in the teachers’ lounge. Indeed for precisely this reason, the department now makes a practice of arranging for a shared lunch period. These conversations spill over outside the school, often finding their way to MSU or beyond.
