ABSTRACT
Modernisation, in the eyes of the functionalists, is essentially revolutionary. That is, it is ‘total’, it is rapid, and it is violent It also involves radical change. Indeed, most writers of this school assimilate revolution to the radical pole of a continuum of types of change. It is simply the most radical form of social change.1
